The healing qualities of lanolin have
been recognized since ancient times. Purelan is safe for use
even on the most sensitive skin and does not need to be removed
prior to breastfeeding.
PureLan 100 is an ultrapure,
hypoallergenic lanolin purified by a patented process to remove
pesticide residues to below the strict maximum permitted by
law. This process also reduces detergent residues and natural
free fatty alcohols, both of which can contribute to rare adverse
skin reactions.
Purelan 100 allows the skin
to rehydrate from within by slowing evaporation of the skin's
natural moisture. Purelan 1-is recommended by physicians and
breastfeeding experts for the prevention and relief of sore
or cracked nipples. It is also appropriate for the treatment

SoftShells
Medela SoftShells were created
with active mothers in mind. Worn between the breast and the
bra, SoftShells offer the same effective treatment for sore
nipples or flat/inverted nipples. Added comfort gives a more
flattering appearance and a greater capacity to absorb leakage.
SoftShells fronts are vented
on their top half. The lower half of the fronts are solid and
hold sponge inserts that absorb leaking milk. The shells soft,
silicone backs flex to match the contour of a woman's breast,
resulting in a more comfortable fit and a smoother, flatter
profile that is less visible through clothing.
Two different types of backs
are available with the SoftShells, depending on the treatment
desired.
Warning: Milk collected in breast shells should not be fed to
babies. Use: for flat/inverted nipples, consult your prenatal
healthcare provider. Breast shell use can be started a couple
of weeks before delivery, during waking hours only.
SoftShells - For Sore Nipples
SoftShells backs with larger opening are
used to protect sore nipples from further irritation. The Sore
Nipple Kit is useful in dealing with leakage problems. The highly
absorbent foam inserts collect dripped milk and prevent embarrassing
stains on mother's clothing.

SoftShells - For Flat or inverted Nipples
Softshells backs with smaller opening help
draw out flat/inverted nipples/ If the mother's nipple does
not protrude sufficiently, the baby has difficulty latching
on to breastfeed properly. This difficulty can lead to sore
nipples, frustration and, ultimately, an unsuccessful breastfeeding
experience. The SoftShells Inverted Nipple Kit, which can be
used before or after birth, helps this problem by fitting closely
around the nipple and applying gentle, steady pressure to push
out the nipple.
The inverted Nipple Kit also may be used
to treat engorgement. Gentle pressure applied to the areola
can help relieve pressure created from engorgement. Extra milk
then drips onto the shells' absorbent foam inserts.
