instructions
In cases of severe feeding
problems, the Haberman Feeder offers an alternative to spoons,
enlarged and/or extra holes in bottle nipples, and nasogastric
tubes. It is so effective and easy to use that it can change
feeding sessions from difficult or traumatic experiences into
a pleasurable activity for health care professionals, parents
and babies.
Special design features
make the Haberman Feeder uniquely responsive to the baby's
nursing efforts. The slit-valve in the teat regulates milk
flow from zero to maximum, depending on its orientation in
the baby's mouth. As milk is drawn out of the teat by even
the slightest action of the limited amount of milk (about
¼ teaspoon0 from the reservoir into the baby's mouth,
baby's tongue and gums, air enters the bottle at the same
rate through an inlet groove in the disc. Consequently, there
is no turbulence. Milk flows in one direction - from bottle
to teat. The reservoir always remains full, and none of the
baby's effort is wasted.
It the baby cannot nurse
at all, or needs a little help, the health care professional
or mother can squeeze and release a small amount (about ¼
teaspoon) from the reservoir into the baby's mouth.
Warning: The
Haberman Feeder is unsuitable for babies with a poor swallow
reflex. Do not use the Feeders without the valve.

instructions
Medela's Supplemental Nursing System (SNS)
is a feeding tube device for giving babies long-term supplemental
feedings at the breast. (A disposable short-term-use device,
the Starter SNS, is also available.)
The SNS was designed to help adoptive
mother's breastfeed by inducing lactation. When a baby suckles
on the mother's breast over a period of days or weeks, a hormonal
mechanism is triggered that causes milk to be produced. The
SNS can also be used for premature babies; weak, ineffective
or lazy nursers; failure to thrive babies; impaired babies;
and low milk supply mothers or relactating mothers. Lactation
professionals also use the SNS as a teaching tool to "fingerfed"
babies who have difficulty latching on the breast.
Because the SNS keeps the baby on the
breast, the mother received the stimulation to sustain and
increase her milk supply. In addition, nipple confusion and
nipple preference are avoided. The SNS also helps preserve
the mother-baby intimacy that is such an important motivator
in breastfeeding.
